Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How many credit hours do I earn toward the Certified Park Operator (CPO) Program by attending the Management School?

A: Each year of attendance is worth 25 credits. Students who attend both years accumulate 50 of the 75 credits needed to earn their initial CPO designation. Those completing the Graduate seminar earn 15 CPO credits.

Q. How are the Management School courses different from those offered at ARVC or my state association’s convention?

A: The subject matter taught in classes at the school combine theory, best business practices and practical application to provide students with a more academic approach to understanding the subject matter and incorporating the learning objectives into their everyday business activities.

Q. Who attends the school?

A: Students at the Management School have a wide range of industry experience. Park owners ranging from those with no experience (just purchased their park) to those with one, two or three years of ownership experience, to those with 20 or more years of experience have all found the perspectives of a varied student body, the intensity of the learning experience, the networking with students and faculty and the new information learned to be refreshing and very helpful. In addition to park owners, many park employees with management responsibilities come to school each year and find the school to be a valuable addition to their personal and professional preparation and growth.

Q. I’m thinking about buying a park. Would I benefit from the school?

A: Many people have found that attendance at the school helps them better understand the industry and campground operations. Attendance can re-affirm a decision to purchase a park or work in the industry or in some cases, it may lead to the opposite. Some of the class and informal discussions get pretty detailed, and those with no operating experience will still gain considerable insights into the business of campground management.

Q. My employer doesn’t think the school is important and won’t fund my participation, but I feel it will help my career. Are scholarships available for folks like me?

A: Yes. Click here or contact ARVC for information about scholarships and eligibility.
